Despite cooking for large groups before and conquering my first ham and even conquering a turkey sans drumsticks and wings I cannot get over my First Thanksgiving Turkey Trepidation. Luckily, as mentioned here, I will have two birds to cook which is sort of a blessing because I can’t screw up two turkeys. Right? Right???
When I read this post over on The Kitchn about grilling turkeys on a gas grill (before I won my second turkey) I thought it sounded like a neat idea. Then when I learned I’d have a second turkey, I thought it would be the perfect way to not overcrowd the oven.
The author said she stuffed them with lemons, oiled and rubbed them in herbs, and kept the oven at 350 degrees for three and a half hours. Bam. That’s it. She even said they came out nice and browned.
I read another article about grilling a bird on Serious Eatsthat said it would be best to butterfly the bird in order to get even to get even cooking but the above article makes it seem not entirely necessary.
Any one ever tried grilling a turkey before? I’m going to go for it no matter what but I’m very interested in thoughts and best methods.
