The weekend before last when I was visiting with my grandma and taking a tour of her 600+ orchids (yes, that’s a ton of orchids) I spotted these guys. She lives in Southern California so her citrus season is a little longer, but this is prime time for these. Can you tell what they are?
Not lemons… they’re limes! It’s actually Meyer lemon season at most farmer’s markets right now and when I mentioned it, my grandma proclaimed, “Well these are ripe because they’re Meyer limes!” I didn’t even know there was such a thing.

I immediately juiced about half to make limeade — mix with simple syrup and some sparkling lime mineral water!– and will juice the others to freeze the juice for future uses. Isn’t it funny how winter is citrus season? When the skies are grey we get these lovely, bright fruits.
